Ms. Katie
Lead Teacher, Creative Caterpillars (Pre-K)

I grew up in the Seattle area and graduated from Western Washington University with a B.A. in English/Creative Writing with a minor in French. My undergrad years provided no clues that I would eventually end up a teacher, and my early ambition was to become an essayist and novelist.
After spending some time living in Albuquerque, NM, I moved back to the Seattle area and was given an opportunity to teach music and piano at a private school. Despite the fact that I had never formally taught before, I discovered I had a real love for it.
I moved to Austin in 2000 and soon enrolled at Texas State University to complete my Masters of Education in Early Childhood Education. I taught Kindergarten in Del Valle ISD for three years before taking time off to stay home with my son, William, who is now in the Busy Bees class at Grace Garden.
I live in the Crestview neighborhood here in Austin with my husband, Mark, William, and an assortment of animal friends. I am excited to be back for another great year at Grace Garden and look forward to helping the students in my class build a strong foundation for literacy and success in school.
